Permission Marketing by Seth Godin - Book Review

Seth Godin's Permission Marketing: Turning Strangers Into Friends And Friends Into Customers is a great read for anyone looking at making their marketing more effective than the traditional advertising method. The examples might be a little dated, but the principles at play are timeless.

Saskatchewan Roughriders and Promotion Timing

The Saskatchewan Roughriders are through to the 2009 Grey Cup in Calgary and they also just sent out their season ticket renewal letters in the mail.

Great timing right? Maybe just a little lucky as I explain in today's Regina Business Blog.

Permission Marketing Is Non Transferable

I've been reading one of Seth Godin's first books, Permission Marketing: Turning Strangers Into Friends And Friends Into Customers, and in it he gives a great example of why permission is non-transferable.

Lots of Small Customers or a Few Big Ones?

During a mastermind type get together with a few friends, the question was posed whether it was better to have a business that relies on a few big customers or a business that has a lot of small customers. I thought about it some more and have this video to share on the topic.

The jist of my thoughts - build your business to create fans that can buy again and again or refer you to others and you'll end up accomplishing the best of both worlds - a large customer base of big customers!

Thanks to @FraserStrategy, @CodaClothing, @Brandon_Wu, Mike, and Jim (who need to get down with the Twitter business) for contributing to the great conversation.

Facebook - Thanks For Connecting People

Giants like Facebook often get a lot of negative stuff said about them online, so this is my video saying thanks to Facebook for connecting people. Facebook is great for connecting people, whether it is personal or business. After our son was born earlier this month, that definitely hit home for me and is one of the reasons I think Facebook won't be going anywhere for a long time.

Crush It! Video Review Mash Up

I have to say, I'm big time flattered to be included in this video review mashup of Gary Vaynerchuk's book Crush It! This video is featured at www.CrushItBook.com right now, which is pretty cool in my books.

And now I can say I've been in a video with Chris Brogan!

You can check out my full video review of Crush It here and have a look at how some people are applying it here. I've got another example recorded as well, it's just in the upload stage, so that should be coming soon as well.

Thanks to Miles for sending me the link!

FORA.TV

FORA.TV is a great site I stumbled upon when Gary Vaynerchuk posted one of his keynotes that was hosted on the site. Here's my thoughts on the business concept behind FORA.TV and why I think it's a huge play for the future.

Take Action! (Don't worry if you're wrong, you can change on the fly)

This afternoon I was filling my gut with a plate full of vegies and dip when the urge to make this video came upon me. I didn't make a note to do it later, I didn't run off to do my hair or put on a tie or get the lighting just right either. I just did it.

I took action.

If you're interested, the video of the Gary Vaynerchuk Crush It book keynote can be found here.

It amazes me that people can over-analyze and fuss over the smallest things. Whether it's the entrepreneur that's waiting to get in the game or the lady who needs 9 envelopes, we all just need to get busy doing stuff. And if you head down the wrong path, adjust on the fly.
